ASSESSMENT ITEM 3: DESCRIPTION (Group 2 or 3 members from the SAME tutorial group)
Weighting and due date:
40%; Due 12 January 2024 (Friday) 2355pm (Week 10) – Submit 1) Storyboard and 2) video
URL link to LearnJCU platform; Only ONE submission per group.
Requirements for successful completion of this assessment item:
You must achieve a minimum of 50% of the weighted mark in order to pass this assessment
item.
This is where all your background work, the literature review, and critical data analysis come
together to make a convincing pitch to the UN in relation to SDG 12.
You are to create a professional looking video using a variety of technologies. The video is to
be 5 minutes long. Everyone MUST appear in their video presenting some important facts.
Instructions:
• Develop a storyboard for you video which contains sketches for each scene, detailed
notes, transitions, special effects, and sound. The storyboard is submitted via the drop
box in the assessment folder in your subject site. Useful storyboard links:

• Your video should have a powerful message related to the UN’s 12th SDG – it may be
that the sugar cane mill company you have investigated is doing the right thing, that
may be your powerful message, it may be that they are heading in the right direction
but have some way to go.
• You need to demonstrate you have drawn upon relevant, reliable, and current
evidence from a wide range of sources.
• Do not just repeat the facts, think about what is said and how it is said.
• Speak clearly and use appropriate academic and industry language.
• Your video must have appropriately embedded figures, tables, and graphics relevant
to the discussion.
• Have graphics (figures/tables, photos, etc) appear on screen as you are talking (within
video graphics) – see the UN video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ko8qCyoZMg and think about how it moves between presenters, video footage, display of text
and figures. This video is just over 7 minutes, yours is only 5 minutes.
• This IS NOT a PowerPoint presentation slide show
• Do not use cue cards
• Your video can be recorded on your smartphone (see links)
• You must appear in your video and look professional
• All members must appear and talk for an equal amount of time
• If you need volunteers for your video and you have family and/or friends willing to
help, ensure they understand what the video is about and how important it is to you.
• If you intend to embed very short video clips from YouTube in your video, try to use
your own. If you use any material that is not your own or does not have a creative
commons licence (check with the library), you may not be able to publish it to YouTube
due to the embedded video belonging to another party. This would mean failing the
assessment.

You must upload your video to YouTube, check the ‘unlisted’ box in the privacy
settings. Do not select ‘private’ in the privacy settings for your video, this allows only
you to see it. If you make it public everyone can see it.
If you have a Gmail account, you have a YouTube channel to upload your video to. If
you don’t have a Gmail account, open one, they are free.
