Description
Research Topic Proposal
In this week’s Discussion Board, you began exploring topics for research projects in your major field of study. For this Critical Thinking assignment, you will identify a single, researchable topic that you would like to focus on for your Portfolio Project. Think carefully about the topic you select, because if it is approved, you will work on this topic for the remainder of the term. The research proposal you submit for this assignment must be approved by your instructor to move forward with your project. Approval (or further direction for revision) will be given in the feedback on this assignment.
Address the following in your proposal:
What topic do you plan to research? Why? What sparks your interest in this issue? Why does this issue matter to others beyond yourself?
What are 3-5 open-ended questions that are debatable about this topic?
What are some of the different positions held by writers who discuss the topic? Cite specific sources as you answer this question.
Who do you envision as your audience—the people who can make a change, the “stakeholders”—for your argument?
While you can use these questions to guide your writing, you will put your writing into paragraphs and paper format for your final, submittable draft.
The library contains wonderful resources to help you throughout the research and writing process. This week, you should view the videos on Choosing a Topic. The CSU Global Library and Writing Center links can be found in the course navigation panel.
Writing should not be an entirely solitary activity. Good writers share their work with others to get feedback and improve their writing. You should strongly consider submitting a draft of your assignment to university’s tutoring services (accessible through your Student Portal) and then using the feedback to revise your paper.
