Find an example of a public personality who uses “vocal fry” in their speech. Choose between Julia Fox or Kim Kardashian. Analyze the effect that the vocal fry produces for audiences. Think about the context in which they are using it, and what social purpose the vocal fry serves. Please do not use the examples already mentioned in the readings! Find someone different. Why does the speaker employ this paralinguistic characteristic, that is, how does it construct their gendered identity? What kind of persona does it help create for the speaker? What affect are they communicating by using vocal fry?What kind of social or cultural power or status is being generated for speaker? Does it grant power or take away power? Why – explain your position. Remember to be specific with regards to context. Post a video or audio of the person speaking, if available.
