Description
Creative writing based on a picture or work of art is called an ekphrasis. Choose an artwork (visual art, as is the focus of our class) to write about creatively (ex. poetry, prose, short story, song). Remember that poetry doesn’t need to rhyme. Consider using free verse. In the opening lines, focus solely on description. Consider all of your senses (sounds, smells, textures) when describing what you see. In the following lines, take your own approach: you can continue to describe, impose a narrative on the scene, or reveal something about yourself or the artist. This should take the same time and effort as an academic essay. If you choose to work in a short form (ex: haiku), write several poems for full points.
