Education & Teaching Question

Description

This week’s 3-5 page paper (see requirements below) is an opportunity to find out about assessment strategies that can be used during lesson delivery to understand whether or not the instruction is coming across to students. It’s tempting to think that assessment = test, but that’s not the case. Anecdotal assessment, such as reading students’ facial expression and other body language during lesson delivery, can be an important tool in monitoring how a lesson or unit is going. There are many strategies for K-12 and higher education teaching that give instructors information about how close students are to mastery. An example using technology is electronic clickers. An example that doesn’t use technology is called response boards. This picture features a group of students using response boards to show an instructor their attempt at solving a practice problem in social studies.

Research three informal or anecdotal assessment strategies that help instructors make implicit student knowledge explicit. While there are many right answers, there are some wrong answers. Wrong answers are quizzes, tests, portfolios, and projects. These are formal approaches to assessment, and this week we’re studying informal approaches to assessment. For this assignment, it may be necessary to consult professional organizations in the field as well as peer-reviewed literature from your library database. Use good judgment in choosing valid sources.

This 3-5 page paper also has an APA formatted title page with both running heads, introduction, body, conclusion, and reference page. The title page and reference page is not part of the 3-5 page count. All sections of the paper must have level-1 content headings above each section. See page 62 of the APA manual to show how to format level-1 (and other) headings. If other sub-levels are needed, follow the same page 62 of the APA manual for their proper formatting and placement.

I have provided good articles for your consideration in Week 3 Course Resources/Week 3 Written Assignment Articles. Use your textbook whenever possible. You need a minimum of 2 sources for your research basis.

This written assignment is due by Sunday midnight.
