Description
Student one to respond toI would totally consider serving clients and their families. Personally, the most challenging aspect for me would really just be seeing struggling families. Knowing that they have had to reach out for help would be motivation for me to work harder and do right by the clients. Working with a family can complicate the issue of confidentiality simply because you are working with a group of multiple individuals. I would respond to these challenges by demonstrating respect, support, trust, and keeping confidential information confidential. Strengths I can identify within families that might help the recovery process for a client include love, communication, respect, and being supportive. I believe that all of these things in a family can help a client who is in the recovery process. The most helpful information I gained from this course would have to be the Stages of Change. Before this course, I have never learned or even heard of the model. I think I was most interested in learned about those stages. The most challenging would have to be the diagnoses and how many there are. Not only is there criteria for an individual to match, but there are also many things to looks out for in the process. Now, I am confident and interested in bettering my abilities to do so. What I learned in this course this semester changed so many of my view points. After this course, I can understand how so many people struggle. I can also understand why many individuals don’t reach out for help. Addictions and disorders are so much more than being a “junkie” or an “alcoholic”.
