As nurses in the community, it is important to incorporate evidence-based nursing practices that will
demonstrate ethnic identity, cultural awareness strategies, and sociocultural practices of clients in the
community. Public/community health nursing involves working with various Vulnerable Populations as equal
partners with a focus on primary prevention and health promotion.
This assignment includes designing healthcare education for individuals, families, and communities about your
vulnerable population. The overall purpose of this assignment is to 1) increase your ability to research current
event in public/community health, 2) increase your understanding of a particular area of public/community
health, and 3) critically evaluate what is being done to support this population/community to increase their
ability to be healthy event affecting the population/community. First presentation will be week 3.
You will present your findings to class in a Poster Board and/or a Powerpoint presentation to the class with
class participation. The assignment includes is a reasoned opinion of the vulnerabilities of the population and

community, and increases its ability to be healthy.
This assignment requires critical thinking to develop a reasoned, supported opinion of your
target population’s vulnerabilities. You should explore your existing attitudes, thoughts, and
intrinsic beliefs regarding the health issues of this population.
You will present your findings to the class via poster board or PowerPoint presentation during
Weeks three through six. Be sure you encourage class participation and interaction during the
presentation. Review the rubric for additional details.
Below are some examples of vulnerable populations. You may pick one from the list below or
choose a different population with approval of instructor. For this presentation, use at least six
references. Each reference must be current, no older than five years.
