Response: ALEXIS
Hello everyone! My name is Alexis, but everyone calls me Lex. I live in
Louisiana, born and raised with my fiancé and 2 dogs. I currently work
for JP Morgan Chase where I have been for a while now. I love music,
traveling, reading different books, and shopping online. I am interested
in the criminal justice field to become a probation officer and/or criminal
investigator. I want to help rehabilitate individuals and find the bad guys.
The resources that will help me be successful in the course are textbooks
and access to technology. The textbooks will provide detailed
information and explanations of the concepts covered in this course.
Having access to internet or a computer is very important because all
our work such as research, discussions and assignments are done online.
My instructor can help me reach this outcome by communicating and
being available when I have questions about an assignment. My
instructor can also give help give constructive feedback on my
assignments to help improve my work. My classmates and I can get
acquainted and create a study group. This can help us learn from each
other and lean on one another for support.
Discussion 2: Lisa
Hi, my name is Lisa, and I currently work as a home caregiver. I have a
husband and 4 children, the last of whom will be 18 in 2 months. I
decided to go back to school last year after receiving my associate’s
degree decades ago. I am interested in Criminal Justice mostly because I
want to understand how our justice system works in our
country/states/cities, etc. It has always bothered me that in so many
social interactions so many issues are misunderstood, not backed up
with facts, and steered to one’s own agenda. I want to have an accurate
grasp on our criminal justice system so that I can be a source of accurate
information when in these interactions. I have people in my circle who
fall under the LGBTQ+ umbrella, and with politics as volatile as they are,
I am worried about the laws we have and the ones that may change, and I
want to be in a position to help. So maybe a career as an advocate of
some sort is where I might be headed, not really sure as you can tell by
this post! To be successful in this course, I need to discipline myself with
my time, I need to assert myself in asking questions when I am confused,
and I want to engage with you all in these discussions. The resources
provided in this course will be my main “go to” for knowledge. I do tune
in to the news from different sources, which helps me keep an open mind
about what information is coming in regarding society and how criminal
justice works within it. I will be honest when I say that, taking college
courses forces me to be accountable and to actually learn new things.
Without this push, I had become adverse and lazy with pushing myself
and instead would rather bury my head so much of the time. Life is
overwhelming, but taking courses keeps me in the loop and makes me
feel good! And this course is soooo important!
