Fayol’s personal experience in administrative science, industry, and mining fueled his perspectives on the “core ambition” (Author 1 & Author 2, 2019, p.401) of his philosophy. His theory is to explain how the collaboration between the executive and the staff of a company can impact the success of the business. Fayol believed that continuing to research improvements for a business is crucial in business development and “a business which does not go forward is soon behind its competitors” (Author 1 & Author 2, 2019, p.404). This thought process is widely used in a multitude of businesses, including the business I work for which is the field of intelligence.Fayol’s administrative theory of management relates to my field of intelligence, because of the unique relationship between the hierarchical personnel and the small offices that are subordinate. To succeed in the intelligence field of business, executives at the top must seek information from their subordinate offices to achieve a common goal. Fayol understood that “the executive must act resolutely but only after consulting with different offices whose expertise is key for decision-making” (Author 1 & Author 2, 2019, p.409). Decision-making within the intelligence field is crucial for policy makers when faced with possible outcomes that may affect national security. In summary, this original interpretation of Henri Fayol’s administrative management theory emphasizes the importance of relationships amongst people. That relationship within a business is the key to success.
