Introduction
Workflow analysis has long been a part of health care with the aim of providing quality care in an efficient and effective manner. When electronic health records hit the scene, workflow analysis became even more important. It was important for workflow analysis to be performed prior to technology implementation to identify the current process and potential changes to the process. Workflow analysis is often done with an interdisciplinary team including providers, nurses, front office staff, informaticists, project managers, etc. For this discussion, you will explore the impact electronic health records and other health care technologies have had on workflow, gain an understanding of the importance of workflow analysis, and differentiate workflow analysis options. While every organization approaches workflow analysis a bit differently based upon process and protocols, basic focus is the same.
