Description
Instructions
A discussion grading rubric is available for the expectations of quality postings (see course syllabus). Quality, timeliness, and depth of postings will enhance your overall achievement in the course. Initial postings should be 250 to 300 words and include references and in-text citations (APA 7th format).
Please make sure the initial discussion post addresses all discussion questions (or those assigned) as it is due by Wednesday, 11 PM CST. Discussion posts should apply course concepts to professional nursing practice, provide relevant comments that are supported by citations, and advance the discussion. The additional outside resource needs to be marked with an asterisk ( * ).
For the initial posting, please review the cases below and fully discuss (a, b, c, or d); per assignment matrix posted in the “Ask the Instructor” section:
a. etiology and epidemiology
b. underlying pathophysiology
c. signs and symptoms and diagnostic tests
d. latest advances on diagnosis and treatment of the alteration. How would you translate/apply the new knowledge into your practice of patient care?
Case
2. Post Strep Glomerulonephritis: A 28-year-old nursery school teacher developed a marked change in the color of her urine (“cola-colored”) 1 week after she contracted impetigo from one of her students. She also complained of new onset of global headaches and retention of fluid in her legs. Examination revealed a blood pressure of 158/92, resolving honey-crusted pustules over her right face and neck, 1+ pitting edema of her ankles, and no cardiac murmur. Urinalysis revealed 2+ protein and numerous red cells and red cell casts. Her serum creatinine was elevated at 1.9 mg/dL. Serum complement levels (CH50, C3, and C4) were low. She was diagnosed with poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis.
