This week we are talking about Global Sports Business Strategy Practices. A major part of this week’s topic will be for each of you to pay close attention to the following items located in this week’s module:

2. Analytics Lessons From Baseball: Sig Mejdal

3. The Business of Sports Data: How Analytics Are Bringing Intentionality in Every Layer of the Sports Industry (The 18-minute video where Patrick Rishe interviews Neil Schwartz, Managing Partner, SBR Net)

4. The following two articles: “How D2C is changing advertising in live sports” and “Asics switching to D2C strategy cutting supplies to UK independent sports stores”

Based on the items above, answer the following questions. Each answer should be at least 75% of a page. If referencing material, please make sure you add a READABLE link so that I can check and get more info from the reference. Students will receive ten points for answering each of the questions below. Students will receive ten points for answering the bonus question.

Question I: Briefly summarize Chase Carpenter’s speech, Sig Mejdal’s interview, and Patrick Rishe’s conversation with Neil Schwartz.

Question II: Do you think the strategic decisions and ideas of Chase Carpenter and Sig Mejdal will have a positive or negative impact on each of the organizations they work for (from an athletic and a business sense)? (Special Note: Sig Mejdal is now the Assistant General Manager for the Baltimore Orioles)

Question III: How important is Sports Business Analytics to an organization (according to Neil Schwartz)?

Question IV: Give your opinion on how Sports Business Analytics can benefit any organization whether you are talking about a team or a company in the sports industry.

Question V: According to the two articles, “How D2C is changing advertising in live sports” and “Asics switching to D2C strategy cutting supplies to UK independent sports stores” answer the following questions: What is a direct-to-consumer (D2C) business model? Also, do you agree or disagree with the following statement: “Streaming sports presents a lucrative opportunity for direct-to-consumer services.”
