Purpose
The purpose of the graded collaborative discussion is to engage faculty and students in an
interactive dialogue to assist the student in organizing, integrating, applying, and critically
appraising knowledge regarding advanced nursing practice. Scholarly information obtained from
credible sources as well as professional communication are required. Application of information
to professional experiences promotes the analysis and use of principles, knowledge, and
information and fosters the development of a learning community as ideas, perspectives, and
knowledge are shared.
Instructions for Discussion Criteria
1. Application of Knowledge
a. Discuss the weekly question(s) accurately and fully address all questions and topics
b. Use personal experiences or examples from the healthcare field
2. Engagement in Meaningful Dialogue
a. Respond to a student peer or course faculty furthering dialogue by providing more
information and clarification thereby adding more depth to the discussion
b. For full credit, students must provide at minimum three substantive posts: one (1) to
the initial question or topic by Wednesday evening and a minimum of two (2)
substantive responses to your student colleagues and/or professors by Sunday
evening.
3. Integration of Evidence
a. Incorporate at least three (3) different scholarly sources each week – include an in-text
citation for each source
