Assume that you have been hired as an interaction designer by a tech startup. The startup
is planning to launch a web application. The company wants to differentiate its product by
providing a highly interactive and user-friendly interface, and they have hired you to lead
this effort.
Objective:
The objective of this coursework is to design an intuitive and user-friendly interface mobile
application. The coursework involves conducting user research, creating interactive
prototypes, and evaluating the usability and effectiveness of the application.
Task 1: Select and Adapt Interaction Design Approaches [18
marks]
Select the field that interests you to design a web or mobile application:
• Gaming and Entertainment
• Travel and Tourism
• Education and Learning
• Transportation and Logistics
Generate user personas and scenarios to gain insight into the target demographic and their
objectives. Determine and rationalize the choice of appropriate interaction design
methodologies for this application. Your selection should be supported by theoretical
principles, and you should elucidate why these methodologies are fitting for the
development of this interactive product.
Task 2: Design and Prototype [20 marks]

Design the user interface and construct a prototype using appropriate materials or
tools. You may use tools like Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, or any other prototyping
tools you are comfortable with. Your prototype should demonstrate the key features
of the application.
Incorporate UI design elements, interaction patterns, and navigation flows to
demonstrate the proposed improvements.
Test the prototypes with representative users to gather feedback and validate design
decisions.
Task 3: User Involvement Program [20 marks]
Outline a protocol for user engagement that upholds ethical standards and equity. This
protocol should elaborate on your strategy for involving users in both the design and
evaluation phases, how you intend to secure informed consent, and the measures you will
implement to safeguard their privacy and confidentiality.
Task 4: Deliverables [17 marks]

Write a report detailing the interaction design approaches selected and their justification, a
description of your user involvement program, and a reflection on the ethical considerations
involved.
The report should contain design documentation: Low-fidelity wireframes or paper
prototypes illustrating the initial design concepts, High-fidelity interactive prototypes and
description and justification of key design decisions and features.
Hints:
1. A link to the prototype of the selected application.
2. Supporting documents (such as consent forms, survey questions, interview
guides, etc.) that you plan to use as part of your user involvement program.
3. The sources should be referenced as per the Harvard referencing system.
Finally, your report should not exceed 2500 words.
Marking Criteria
Your TMA will be assessed based on the following criteria:
1. Create user personas and scenarios to understand the target audience and their
goals. [8 marks]
2. Identify and justify the selection of suitable interaction design approaches for this
application. Your selection should be backed by theoretical principles [5 marks], and
you should explain why these approaches are suitable for the design of this
interactive product [5 marks].
3. Design the user interface and construct a prototype using appropriate materials or
tools. You may use tools like Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, or any other prototyping
tools you are comfortable with. Your prototype should demonstrate the key features
of the application. [10 marks]
4. Incorporate UI design elements, interaction patterns, and navigation flows to
demonstrate the proposed improvements. Quality and usability of the prototypes
created. [ 5 marks]
5. Test the prototypes with representative users to gather feedback and validate design
decisions. [5 marks]
6. Define a program for user involvement that treats users ethically and fairly (5 marks).
This should detail how you plan to involve users in the design and evaluation process
(5 marks), how you will obtain informed consent (5 marks), and how you will ensure
their privacy and confidentiality is maintained (5 marks).
7. Write a report detailing the interaction design approaches selected and their
justification, a description of your user involvement program, and a reflection on the
ethical considerations involved. [4 marks]
8. The report should contain design documentation: Low-fidelity wireframes or paper
prototypes illustrating the initial design concepts, High-fidelity interactive prototypes
and description and justification of key design decisions and features. [5 marks]
9. A link to the prototype of the selected application. [1 mark]
10. Supporting documents (such as consent forms, survey questions, interview guides,
etc.) that you plan to use as part of your user involvement program. [2 marks]
11. Provide at least five references used for answering the above Tasks in Harvard style.
