Description
Answer the questions below based on the following case scenario: Case Scenario: County A: A seven-year-old girl’s teacher reported to the local police department that the child appeared at school with a large bruise on her upper right arm and also bruises on her legs. The child told the teacher that her mother was angry with her for splashing water on the bathroom floor when she bathed. The police department contacted social services (child protection) who went to the school to interview the child. The child was then sent to the hospital for treatment and the social worker obtained those records. The child was treated and placed with her grandmother. Several weeks passed, and then the police detective assigned to the case interviewed the child and obtained medical records of the child’s treatment. A day before the court hearing the prosecutor interviewed the child. County B: A fifteen-year-old girl self-reported to the local police department that her uncle had sexually abused her. The police immediately contacted social services who arranged to have the child’s mother take her to the nearby child advocacy center. The child was interviewed by the child interviewer at the child advocacy center during which time the police detective and social worker(child protection) watched the interview via a live feed. The interview was video recorded and watched by the prosecutor later. The center arranged a sexual abuse examination to be conducted by medical personnel and the results were shared with the social worker, prosecutor, and police detective when they met to discuss the information they each had and decide how to proceed.
