The assignment needs to be based on either primary data-collection relating to interaction design, for example by contacting a professional interaction designer, or someone with an equivalent job role, and to ask
about that person’s work or collect secondary data relevant to the course
(annual reports, surveying literature outlets, web pages, job postings etc.).
It will not be enough relying only on literature, for example papers or
course textbooks. What you chose to focus on is up to you, but you must
address central themes and principles of HCI/ID and the themes that the
course is covering.
A critical step in this process is to craft a relevant and specific topic (question, position, or argument). To shape a relevant topic, you need a level of
prior understanding, and consequently it will become necessary to grasp
the current and contemporary issues within academia and industry. The
literature seminars serve the purpose of being a departing point.
The final product is a paper of maximum 2 500 words (+/-10 %). The essay is handed in on the last day of the course, 11 January 2024. You are
encouraged to use the ‘assistance hours’ to get feedback on your ideas
and thoughts regarding the paper. You hand in the paper as a digital version (via Canvas). You will also need to follow the ACM formatting instruction. The template is available among the course files and on the following

As of the academic year 2019/20, you are also allowed to alternatively
submit a 10-15 minute self-produced and self-narrated video clip on your
chosen topic. Upload to YouTube, set it to ‘unlisted’ and submit a link as
your submission via Canvas.
The paper is an individual work and is graded from the following criterion:
paper focus (having a relevant and answerable question, argument or position), the disposition of the paper, ability to summarise the current
HCI/ID debate on your topic of focus and independence/novelty in argument(s) and conclusion(s).
