A literature review is a key step in an academic research. As a general rule, appropriate
research projects don’t drop from heaven and hit you on the head. You must be
sufficiently knowledgeable about your topic of interest to know what projects might
make important contributions to the field. Reading literature is always helpful for novice
and expert researchers because literature gives us a theoretical base on which to build a
rationale for the study.
In this assignment, you will develop a literature review or synthesis matrix of sources
associated with the topic you selected in the Research Process, Topic, Problem
Statement, and Research Questions or Hypotheses discussion this week. Research at
least five peer-reviewed articles in the Ashford University Library that were published
within the last 5 years. In Week 2, you will complete your literature review of your five
sources. For information on how to complete a synthesis matrix, review the Ashford
Writing Center’s resource, Synthesis MatrixLinks to an external site..
