You are a teacher’s assistant for your Chemistry teacher’s business: “Chill Out: Reusable Ice Cubes”. You’ve been tasked with answering customer emails, and you just received the following email from an inquiring teenager who is also a Chemistry student like you:

“Hello ‘Chill Out!’ I have a question about your product … I was studying online for my upcoming Chemistry assessment, and got thirsty after verbalizing my frustrations converting grams to moles (you probably don’t know anything about that)! I went to the kitchen to get a cold glass of 100% apple juice, adding about 10 ice cubes to my cup to make it even colder. I took a quick taste of my juice to quench my thirst, when then I heard a notification on my laptop about an extra credit opportunity in another class, and quickly diverted my attention to completing that new task! Approximately 60 minutes later, I went back to my Chemistry studies, and my cold cup of apple juice. As I took another sip, I noticed something odd: my juice tasted ‘WEIRD,’ and all of the ice was gone (and I really wanted my drink to be cold)! Your product description online states that it won’t allow for this type of event to happen! I want to make sure of this before I purchase your reusable ice cubes that I ask you WHY your product won’t make my drink taste weird, whereas, my real ice cubes do? Is there something wrong with real water ice cubes that I should be worried about? Can you explain to me what happened to my drink, and why your product won’t do the same?

Sincerely, a Concerned and Thirsty Chemistry Student
