CASE STUDY: SHOULD I CHANGE?

Darren is a 43-year-old Hispanic male. He has been smoking for the last 20 years. He smokes 3 times a day every day. He has started to cough more often. He does not believe anything is wrong with him, as “people always cough when they smoke.” Darren then starts to experience pain when he breathes. Today is Sunday, and he says he will make a doctor’s appointment if he feels worse by Wednesday. On Wednesday, he has started to cough up a little bit of blood. Darren has decided to make an appointment with his doctor on Friday.

QUESTIONS
Identify the stages of change according to the transtheoretical model of behavior change that Danrren has completed and explain how these were accomplished.
Should Darren enroll himself in a smoking cessation group to help him stop smoking regardless of his diagnosis? Why or why not? If so, what stage of change would that be considered?
Write your own ending to this case study. Will Darren reach the stage of termination or not? Why or why not?

NOTE- I only ask that you primarily reference the attached source, but other additional sources are acceptable
