Complete case study 1, The Sanchez Family, and submit by Sunday at midnight. The case study is worth 100 points. Case studies can be found on the Routledge book site.

Mrs. Sanchez’s own pregnancies all occurred within the context of her low income, frequent separation from her spouse, and disconnection from important supports and resources. How might this environment have affected her pregnancy and birth experiences, as well as the early development of her children? Looking at Mrs. Sanchez through a strengths perspective, how do you frame her journey to motherhood?
Considering Emilia specifically, how do you see the intersection of race and class as affecting her experience with an unplanned pregnancy?
What information in this chapter might be useful to Emilia as she considers her options for the pregnancy? How might you assess Emilia’s current need for and interest in information about her health, her pregnancy, and potential avenues?
What types of interventions might you develop for Emilia? How could your work with other members of the family make a difference for Emilia at this point?
What changes to policies could affect Emilia’s experiences and potential outcomes in pregnancy?
What ethical issues might you face in working with the family, specifically during Emilia’s pregnancy? How would you propose to navigate those dilemmas?
Given Joey’s age, what developmental milestones might you expect him to be experiencing?
In what ways might his environment (for example, exposure to cocaine, placement in foster and kinship care, eligibility for services) affect his physical and emotional development (for example, developmental milestones and attachments)?
If you were to work with Joey, what ethical and cultural issues might you want to consider?
What strengths might Joey and the family possess that could be used in working with Joey?
Which of the issues discussed might be of concern for the Sanchez family? Describe, in some detail, how individual members might be affected by these issues and how they might impact the family as a system.
How might these issues be affected by cultural factors? Offer a thorough exploration of the cultural context in which the family lives and how you, as social worker, would take into consideration this context as you pinpoint issues.
Based on problems that you identify for this family and your ideas about how to work with these problems and the family, what ethical dilemmas, if any, could potentially emerge for this family?
What theories might you want to use to guide your interventions and why?
Briefly describe what type of interventions you would recommend for this family based on your assessment of problems. Justify your plans.

Complete case study 2, Riverton, and submit by Sunday at midnight. The case study is worth 100 points. Case studies can be found on the Routledge book site: http://routledgesw.com/caseStudies

What issues presented in chapter 10 might be relevant to you as a community social worker as well as Riverton resident and why?
What theoretical perspective might be useful to you in conceptualizing your dual relationship relevance and why?
Using the theory you chose in the last question and the information in this chapter 10, how could you proceed with an intervention for the homeless population and the issues for stakeholders within the community?
Are there ways in which the theories of moral development could be applied to any situation

to help you conceptualize or work with problems in this community?

5.How might different members of the Riverton community view the issues associated

with neighborhood development differently, depending on their stage of moral development?

6.What issues discussed in chapter 10 might apply to the individual situations of the problem of homelessness in your community?

7.What specifically should be done to meet the needs of those who are homeless and struggling

with substance use disorders?

8.What theoretical perspectives can support a solution to the problem of public intoxication and its consequences in your neighborhood?

9.What are the different levers you might use to address the issue?

10.In what ways might the issues presented in chapter 10 apply to the community as a

whole?

What issues from her earlier development might be creating problems for her now, in later adulthood?
