Description
There were several challenges in the build up to road development in rural and urban America, first it was a conflict between motorists and rural dwellers, then the conflict between urban pedestrians and motorists who compete for the use of the roads. Urban centers in particular have been impacted by externalities in the form of air pollution and car accident fatalities. Up till today there is still a high rate of fatalities on the roads despite improved developments in the automobile and traffic technology.Looking at the evolution of road development (as seen in Wells & Cronon 2012 pg. 65-105 and the PPT attached), how do road and traffic policies mostly meant for the automobile integrate other road users, like pedestrians and cyclists?
