Hello Professor and Classmates,

Picardi defines a job description as “A summary of job-related information consisting of its required qualifications, responsibilities, and tasks” (Picardi,1). In a nutshell, it is an explanation of the expectations that the organization has for each specific job or role. Regarding the business goals, job descriptions are used to measure performance by employees. They can be used in the training and development process. They will help in the hiring process and unfortunately, if needed, will help in the firing process.

Recruitment – Job postings can be drawn from job descriptions.
Selection – the competencies in the job description are the qualifiers that should include the selection process.
Performance Management – Used during employee evaluation.
Training and Development – budgets are created for training and development based on job descriptions and what expectations exist for the employee and what training is suggested.

Since job descriptions are used for hiring, evaluating and even firing employees an organization has an ethical obligation to keep them up to date. The employee needs to have an understanding of all expectations. If the job role changes, the job description should change and should be discussed.

I hope everyone has a great week.

Take Care,

Rianne
