Topic: This will be the topic of your annotated bibliography and
research paper.
Guideines: Answer the following questions.
Who is the audience of your paper? Not just me – the audience
must be broader and serve to persuade (rhetoric is the art of
persuasion) – so who is the audience? The audience comes from
what the paper is about – if you are writing about teens and
mental health then the audience could be teens OR parents OR
the government (who can make changes in laws) – the audience
will decide how your paper will be written.
What is the purpose? This research paper will be an argument,
made by you. So with that in mind what is the purpose of your
research paper?
What is the genre? This is a third person, researched argument.
So, once again, what is the genre???

What then is a good ‘working’ thesis statement for your research
argument paper?? Remember being adaptable is one of the
criteria for a good thesis which is why this will be a ‘working’
thesis – it may change after research and writing.
