Description
Topic Proposal Assignment
What is a topic proposal? A topic proposal literally proposes, or maps out, the writer’s early ideas. If approved, the topic that you choose for the proposal will then be used to write your Impact of a Community on Society Persuasive Essay. I will give you feedback on your topic proposal that lets you know whether you are ready to move on to researching and then writing your essay.
Here are some important reminders to consider before writing your topic proposal:
How to choose a topic? Select a community that has contributed significantly to society, such as a historically marginalized community or a community that has actively worked towards positive change.
I reserve the right to insist that you change your topic once I read the proposal. (Trust me, this is often to your benefit)
Be VERY careful about choosing your topic because once you settle on a topic, you cannot change it! There’s no changing topics once your topic is approved, so you want to be as careful and thoughtful as possible.
As you write this, keep in mind your fellow students and teacher as potential readers (of course), but also try to imagine a reader who might come across your essay who knows nothing about the community that you have chosen to write about for this assignment. What sorts of things would you have to tell them in order for your essay to make sense?
While you don’t need to have a Works Cited page for this assignment or to use source material, you should explain in your topic proposal the research that you have done to get some background on your community of choice.
What kinds of questions do you have about your topic so far? What sorts of concerns do you have about your topic as you begin the research process? What do you already know about the topic? What do you feel is important to know?
Keep in mind that there is a very strict policy about the use of AI generated text and the plagiarism policy applies.
Ideally, the proposal should be no more than one full page.
Lastly, if you have any questions, please get in touch with me! I am always happy to help.
