1) I really enjoyed reading your post. I have been to Malta before, and it is a small and beautiful island. Online gaming is rapidly growing worldwide, and I like how the Malta Gaming Authority aims to be competitive in attracting online gaming businesses. What do you think makes them unique as an excellent online gaming hub besides their thorough regulatory framework? Technology? Taxation?

2) I’m looking forward to hearing more about your research on the Maltese market. I have colleagues in the region and country, and they have enjoyed the flexible game development framework and the low corporate and personal tax rates (Income and Taxation, n.d.). This seems to be a great recruitment tool for foreign talent and investors. To your comments regarding online gaming, Evolution (Evolution, 2023), which has largely established itself as the premier online live casino studio service provider to the U.S. iGaming market (B2B) is headquartered in Malta. With all the focus coming out of Malta centering around online gaming, do you know if there are Integrated Resorts in Malta and to what scale?

3) ask one more question based on the following post, similar length as above:

I have selected Macau as my target jurisdiction. I started following the Macau market in early 2006, at which point I was a Slot Supervisor at MGM Grand Las Vegas. I was identified and asked to consider relocating to the region, for the opening of (then) MGM Grand Macau, now simply MGM Macau.

I remember sharing the opportunity with a great man who became a mentor to me and encouraged me to run towards the opportunity and “leave everything else behind.” I remember him telling me that no one had any real idea about the wealth and opportunity hidden in China. My friend and mentor (Marcel Haar), passed away during the COVID pandemic, but the last two decades have served as a testament of what China is capable of as an economic world engine, while Macau specifically, has grown into the largest gaming market in the world regularly 5-6 times larger than the next closest, being the Las Vegas Strip market (Shibboleth Authentication Request, n.d.).

Despite being in the industry just over 21 years now, I have not yet made it to Macau but continue to be intrigued. I plan on using this opportunity to research the history of the Macau market (澳門特別行政區 政府博彩監察協調局, n.d.), and better understand the regulatory environment, taxation, parity across operators and license types, and the differences between games in Macau versus the United States.

Lastly, I recently started taking Mandarin lessons through Duolingo, as the culture itself also fascinates me. I look forward to reading about everyone else’s interests.

Here’s to a great class!
