topic proposal. please based on all of the information I provide you
write me an essay. I need it to at least 6-8 pages length.
Instruction:
Format
All paper assignments should use 1-inch margins and 12-point Times
New Roman or Calibri font. Assignments should be doubled-spaced. For
instances where you need to cite, use APA formatting for your
citations.
For APA formatting, please follow the guidelines from your APA
Practice, your APA resource, and make sure to include the hanging
indent!

Your rough draft should be a close-to-complete version of your final
paper. The more you have done for your rough draft, the better your
feedback will be for the final product. Keep this in mind when you
work on and submit this assignment.

a conclusion
a bibliography
Literature
Optionally, you can include an abstract, but we will focus on that
for the final paper.
As with the final paper, the introduction should set up a
history/background of the topic, which can include a discussion of
the impact of the topic (who/what does it affect) and a broad
discussion of social science methods. You should also introduce the
three major themes that you will be discussing in the literature
review. For your conclusion, recap your overall discussion and the
major points of the literature review. What does this tell us about
your topic overall? How does the information fit together to portray
the state of American culture? Reestablish the impact of the topic.
Also cover any future directions that research should move in. Are
there unanswered questions? Unstudied populations?
Avoid using first person. Do not say, “I want to discuss,” or
similar things. Focus on the topic and the themes, not you or your
experiences.

As an example, instead of saying, “I want to explore how
gender, race, and sexuality influence inequality,” you could
say something like, “Inequality is influenced by a wide range
of factors, including gender, race, and sexuality.”

the paper from your introduction

o Peer-reviewed, academic articles (here are some tips for

you can use articles published since 2005.

I will give you the bibliographic citations for the lectures soon, so
you can use a placeholder for lectures in the rough draft (e.g., the

The Role of ‘Low Culture’ in American Society: Analyzing Reality TV
and Memes
In my final paper, I am planning to propose an examination of reality
TV and internet memes, often labeled as ‘Low Culture,’ within the
context of American society. My paper will aims to dissect the
criteria behind this categorization and explore its broader
implications, particularly focusing on whether a shift towards more
intellectually stimulating content could positively impact societal
progress. This exploration is crucial for understanding the cultural
landscape and its influence on societal norms and values. ‘Low
Culture’ refers to cultural products typically perceived as lacking
intellectual depth or artistic sophistication, a contrast to ‘High
Culture,’ which is associated with intellectual and artistic
refinement. Reality TV and internet memes, despite their immense
popularity, often fall into the ‘low’ category due to their perceived
simplicity and mass appeal. This section will explore their
historical evolution, tracing how these forms of media have developed
and the cultural forces that have shaped their current status as ‘low
culture.’ It will draw upon sources like Smith & Johnson (2022) and
Brown (2023) to provide a comprehensive background. The distinction
between ‘low’ and ‘high’ culture offers significant insights into
societal attitudes and preferences. This part of the paper will delve
into how reality TV and memes, as prevalent forms of low culture,
reflect and influence public perceptions, social norms, and
collective behaviors. The discussion will focus on their role in
shaping public discourse, their impact on societal trends, and how
they mirror the complexities of modern life. This analysis will help
in understanding the broader cultural implications of these media
forms. My interest in this topic stems from the observation that the
media we consume can profoundly impact our societal trajectory. This
paper will argue that a cultural shift towards more substantive and
intellectually engaging content could have significant benefits for
societal progress. It will explore the hypothesis that a reduction in
the dominance of low culture in our media diet could lead to a more
informed, critically thinking, and progressive society. This section
will also reflect on how such a shift might influence various aspects
of social life, including education, political discourse, and public
debate. Investigating the feasibility of a cultural shift towards
more enriching media is crucial. This section will examine the
challenges and opportunities in changing popular taste and attitudes
towards media consumption. It will analyze examples of media that
have successfully combined mass appeal with intellectual substance,
exploring what makes them effective and how they could serve as
models for future content creation. The discussion will also consider
the role of content creators, media platforms, and audiences in
facilitating this shift. In my final paper, it will conclude by
summarizing the insights gained, emphasizing the importance of
critically evaluating the impact of low culture in our society. Also,
it will advocate for a more balanced cultural landscape, one that
values both entertainment and intellectual enrichment, and its
potential benefits for societal enrichment.
