In order to gain a perspective of the rapid changes in early-twentieth-century society and their direct relation to the plethora of art movements, I would like you to pick ONE year from 1900–1920. Research noteworthy

inventions,
world events,
and discoveries

from that year and tell HOW you think they influenced the art movements of the 20th century (Be specific- give examples). You will also have to research the art movements of that time. Don’t tell me each invention for example like, the vacuum cleaner made cleaning faster so artists had more time to work! Think overall what was happening! Look at everything from that year and what did it do to the hearts and minds of people and artists. How did all these things affect artists and their creations. Think about the theories of those art movements and were they developed due to the changes in that year.

Share your findings in an approximately three-five minute video report to the class. You can record yourself, your screen or both.

TO CREATE VIDEO:
Write a script to follow
Create a slide presentation.
and include pictures of what you are presenting. You can open the pictures a head of time on your desktop or phone for recording. You can pause the recording to take a break, close a picture, open another one etc. It will be fun to hear your voices, and if you choose, see your faces. Be sure to check out other students videos to learn about their year and get to know them a little better.
Pay attention to the Due Date! Respond to 2 others within 24 hours of the due date, more if you like, and let them know you watched.
USE CANVAS STUDIO TO MAKE YOUR VIDEO. YOU CAN WATCH THE HOW TO VIDEO AND/OR READ THE INSTRUCTIONS JUST BELOW IT.

PART 2–

You will be making a video presentation.

Pick an artist you are interested in from any time period, working in any medium, except, as in DO NOT PICK Frida Kahlo, Diego Riviera, Pablo Picasso, Van Gogh, Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Bob Ross, Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali. (Sorry these artists are too familiar. I want you to find an artist you don’t know much about). Take a chance on a film director or a sculptor or ceramicist. But it must be a VISUAL artist. Research that artist and address ALL of these prompts:

the history of their life,
events happening at the time they live or lived and were working,
other art movements happening at the same time they were working,
their theories on art,
what if any art movement they belong or belonged to,
a summary of their body of work- did they pioneer a new direction in their medium,
what were the main elements and principles of design they tend or tended to use,
what of the 6 functions does their art employ,
what art criticism have they received (which of the theories are applied to their work) and do you agree or disagree with that assessment, does the artist?

You’ll have to read not only about the artist, but articles written about their work (from art magazines for example, books written) and research the time period in which they were working. Remember to cite resources correctly and use your own words.

Write a script for you to use for your presentation. Then you will record your presentation (screen and/or you) using Studio and upload it to this discussion. (Instructions below).

Your notes (expanded upon) and thoughts for the presentation should be written clearly, so you can use it as a script. (FYI to be sure you have enough information prepared for the oral presentation you will record= 500-600 words is the approximate equivalent of a 5-6 minute speech), create a powerpoint (or equivalent) presentation (include key points, images of work, the artist, other artist’s work going on at that time, etc) and present it to the class.

Plan on approximately a 5-6 minute presentation ONLY. Be concise!

After uploading your own video, View classmates videos so you can learn about even more artists. Respond to 2 other presentations within 1 day of the due date.

Pay attention to the Due Date!

So:

Research your artist.
Write a script and create a visual presentation to record according to the prompts above.
Record your screen and/or you, using Studio, while presenting your material. Be sure to keep it to 5-6 minutes!
Upload your recording to the discussion, being SURE it is visible without being downloaded.

Extra Credit: If you dress as the artist and give us a little insight into their personality or persona you will receive 10 extra points 🙂
