Introduction
For this assignment describe one of your cultural identities that defines you and a cultural artifact that represents it. For instance, the identity may be ethnicity and the artifact might be food or it might be a religious affiliation and an object that represents that affiliation. Refer to the lecture by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie where she discusses cultural artifacts in relation to stereotypes and how they are representative of cultural values. Cite at least two specific passages, quotes, or facts from the lecture.
This assignment helps you to define and describe the cultures that create your identity to give you a better understanding of what identities mean in the construction of the stories or narratives that shape how we see ourselves and others.
Essay Paper Instructions
Describe one of your cultural identities and a corresponding artifact that represents it. In your description, please address the following:

Is this identity a new one or is it one that you grew up identifying with? Cultural identities can be ethnic, religious, racial, sexual, etc.
Are there cultural stereotypes or “single stories” that could distort people’s perceptions about you based on the artifact?
At the end of your submission, include a brief Design Statement explaining the process and tools you used to develop your work. Your statement should be about a paragraph or so, in your own words (rather than formally written), and unique to this assignment. Why are we asking for this? Find out more about Design Statements.

Be specific in regard to your cultural identity and artifact. If you have an image of your artifact available, please feel free to include it in the document that you upload in response to this assignment.
