Goals and Objectives
I developed several goals and objectives to guide the research I will undertake during the
project described above. My primary goal was to gain a holistic view of how the COVID-19
pandemic impacted the blood banking industry. I attained this goal by exploring the systemic

stresses created by the pandemic on the industry, the distribution logistics challenges, as well as
the regulatory changes that emerged. My second goal was to evaluate the adaptability of the
industry in response to the pandemic-induced challenges. I attained this goal by identifying and
documenting specific adaptations, changes, and innovations made by blood banks to overcome
distribution and regulatory hurdles. My final goal was to investigate the long-term impacts of the
pandemic on blood banking dynamics. I managed to evaluate how the changes induced by the
pandemic impacted the resilience and sustainability of the blood supply chain. With regard to the
objectives I hoped to attain, one of the main ones was understanding how the changes within the
blood banking industry due to the pandemic impact patient safety. I managed to examine
whether the adaptations improve or undermine patient safety, including their impacts on the
standard of treatment. Besides this, another objective was examining the broader implications of
the resilience of the healthcare system. I attained this objective by not only evaluating how
changes in blood banking interact with other components of the healthcare system but also
proposing recommendations for improving the overall resilience of the healthcare system.
Another objective was to provide actionable policy recommendations informed by the study’s
findings. I suggested potential improvements that will help mitigate future challenges within the
blood banking industry. My last objective was to contribute to the existing knowledge pool by
providing evidence-based insights about the intersection between healthcare, blood banking, and
pandemic responses.
The Need for the Project and Alignment with the Organization’s Philosophy and Mission
Ongoing industry discussions, stakeholder feedback, and my awareness of the critical
challenges plaguing the blood banking industry due to the pandemic pushed me to explore this
project. Furthermore, personal supplementary research revealed a gap in understanding the

2020). Furthermore, my practicum organization emphasizes identifying and addressing realworld challenges within the healthcare ecosystem, contributing to knowledge that improves

these principles, considering it examines the intricate relationships between the COVID-19
pandemic, blood banking, and the broader healthcare dynamics. Besides this, the organization’s
mission of bridging gaps in healthcare knowledge and promoting industry adaptability is also
aligned with the project’s goals, which generally seek to examine, understand, and offer valuable
insights into how the blood banking industry has responded to the unprecedented challenges
created by the pandemic. By performing this study, the project will provide actionable insights

Real/Potential Barriers during My Practicum Experience Related to the Project
I encountered several barriers during my practicum experience linked to this project.
First, obtaining access to comprehensive, real-time data was challenging because of the sensitive
nature of healthcare information. Specifically, privacy and regulatory constraints limited the
depth of the analysis I performed. Besides this, logistical challenges might have emerged should
I have decided to conduct and coordinate interviews/surveys with several key stakeholders, such
as blood bank professionals, healthcare practitioners, and regulatory authorities. The evolving
nature of the response to the pandemic from the blood bank industry made it challenging to

conclusively capture the long-term impacts of the pandemic. Limited resources, in terms of
budget and time, also affected the depth and scope of the research I performed.
Project Evaluation and Sustainability
Evaluating the outcomes of a project is vital. Doing this allows a researcher to establish
whether the goals and objectives guiding the project were attained, as well as the generalizability
of project findings (Davis, 2023). In line with this, the project will be evaluated via a multifaceted approach that includes quantitative and qualitative metrics. These quantitative success
metrics include improved blood supply chain efficiency, assessing the number of successful
blood donations, and assessing any notable distribution logistics improvements. Qualitative
success metrics include the impact of the recommendations on patient safety and the standard of
treatment. Data for this assessment can be gathered via surveys, interviews, and feedback from
blood banking professionals and healthcare professionals (Davis, 2023). The project was
designed with the intention of offering ongoing value and adaptability, guaranteeing its
sustainability. Even though the initial research focused on the immediate aftermath of the
COVID-19 pandemic, the project is flexible enough to incorporate follow-up studies tracking
ongoing transformations within the blood banking industry, enhancing its sustainability (Davis,
2023). Additionally, regular updates and evaluations can help identify emerging challenges and
