To prepare for answering any of the question read Chapter 3 and Reading 3.1 “Income Distribution” on page 136 and Case Study 3.3 “Poverty in America” on page 133. Be sure to use moral theories to help support your answer. Answer one of the following questions in a 4–5-page essay:Inequality of income is greater in the United States than in other capitalistic countries. What do you think explains this? Is there something unjust about extreme inequality? Explain.Does the existence of poverty imply that our socioeconomic system is unjust? Does the concentration of poverty in certain groups make it more unjust than it would be otherwise? How would our economy be assessed from the point of view of Rawls’ difference principle? Can it be plausibly maintained that despite poverty, our system works to the “greatest expected benefit to the least advantage”? Do you think this is an appropriate standard? Explain.
