Critical Thinking
Background information:
The supply chain profession entered the year leading the digitalization of ecosystems, delivering the
customer experience, managing trade uncertainty, and applying circular economy concepts.
Digital technologies have deeply changed the way societies exchange information and interact with
each other Technological novelties have altered how people communicate and share information.
Technology has driven enterprises to the next level by helping in many ways starting from
automating repetitive activities, eliminating errors, and last but not least to help in decision making.
The use of technology will surely bring down the challenges and issues, related to customer
expectations, managing their suppliers, maintaining the quality standards, and access to supply
chain data faced by Supply Chain leaders year-on-year.
The evolution of SCM is being driven by new information technologies, including Big Data, cloud
computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), radio frequency identification (RFID), 3-D printing, robotics,
global digital networks, artificial intelligence, and augmented reality. Global supply chain flows will
become increasingly digital and integrated, and end-to-end data will be driven in real-time,
exponentially increasing upstream information flows.” This new paradigm calls for a new
management culture. We call this management culture “Supply Chain Management 4.0.”
This novel technology will affect the logistics, supply chains, manufacturing, and transportation
industries. Therefore, the future of every industry will be open to innovation and technology. Every
industry is going through a rapid transformation that appeared with the fourth industrial revolution.

Answer:
Ques-1-Looking ahead to 2023 and beyond, what does the future hold for the supply
chain? (3- Marks)
Future supply networks will shift dramatically as we reach 2023 and beyond. This shift is largely
due to the fast progress and incorporation of technology into supply chain processes. The
widespread use of digital technology is a primary driving force behind the development of Supply
Chain Management (SCM) 4.0.
The rising pervasiveness of digitalization in business activities is crucial in determining the future
trajectories of supply networks. The use of cutting-edge technologies such as big data, cloud
computing, IoT, RFID, AI, and AR in supply chain operations is becoming more significant,
according to Graham et al. (2013). These technologies increase the efficiency and speed with

which supply chains can adjust to variations in demand by using automation, real-time data
interchange, and predictive analytics.
Sustainability and the circular economy are also gaining popularity. Businesses are adopting
regulations encouraging recycling and reuse out of environmental concern. Sustainable sourcing,
manufacturing, and distribution methods should all improve due to this paradigm change.
Consumer needs are also changing quickly, with a greater emphasis on personalization, quickness,
and transparency. Flexible and agile supply networks are required. To achieve these expectations,
businesses may need to reassess their last-mile delivery strategies, warehouse management
systems, and the deployment of drones and autonomous vehicles.
Ques-2-Discuss the role of present technology and its Impact on the Leanness of EProcurement Processes. (3- Marks)
Modern technologies increase the efficacy of E-Procurement processes by fundamentally altering
how businesses acquire products and services. Technology is primarily responsible for the
improved efficacy and efficiency of electronic procurement, or “e-Procurement,” which includes
digitizing and automating procurement activities. To begin with, technological automation
simplifies and improves e-procurement. Automating and simplifying repetitive activities decreases
the need for human input and eliminates mistakes. These simplifying efforts lead to quicker
procurement, decreased administrative costs, and increased efficiency.
Second, businesses may improve their procurement operations by using data analytics driven by
AI and Big Data. Organizations may improve the efficacy of their procurement systems by
evaluating historical data and supplier performance. This allows them to make better judgments,
design more efficient strategies, and uncover new cost-cutting options (Graham et al., (2013)).

Third, technology facilitates more effective collaboration and communication with suppliers.
Cloud-based technologies, which enable seamless, real-time communication and data transfer,
help build supplier relationships. This improves supplier performance while creating a more
responsive and agile supply chain, both essential components of lean purchasing. Furthermore,
technology aids in cost savings by highlighting areas that should be improved. Companies may
save costs without sacrificing the quality of the products or services they buy by improving their
supplier agreements and inventory management.
Ques-3-Examine and Outline the major issues being faced by supply chain manager(s) and
how it affects the company they work for. (3- Marks)
Many of the daily difficulties that supply chain managers face are critical to the operations of the
businesses they serve. These concerns pervade the supply chain management process and have the
potential to substantially impair an organization’s reputation, financial performance, and
competitiveness. Supply chain interruptions are a serious concern. Pandemics, natural
catastrophes, geopolitical conflicts, and other unanticipated occurrences might disrupt the global
supply chain. Such interruptions may have a negative impact on a firm, such as lower production,
higher expenses, and angry customers.
Another concern is effective stock management. Maintaining an appropriate inventory level that
matches client needs while avoiding expenditures and stockouts is difficult, according to
Kanimozhi Suguna, & and Nanda Kumar (2019). Inadequate inventory management may impair a
company’s ability to respond quickly to changes in client demand.
Our primary priority is to ensure that our suppliers are trustworthy. Reliance on a small number of
suppliers or suppliers located in high-risk areas may contribute to supply chain vulnerability.
Supply chain managers may reduce the impact of these risks by diversifying their suppliers and
thoroughly screening their personnel. Concerns about online safety are mounting.

Ques-4- Information technology offers many valuable capabilities to the enterprise,
especially in E-Auction / Negotiation, Discuss. (3- Marks)
E-auctions and e-negotiations are two modern business procedures that IT has revolutionized.
There are many advantages to using these digital platforms, which leverage technology to improve
and speed up the negotiating and procurement processes. One of the primary benefits of e-auction
and e-negotiation platforms is increased productivity. These innovations simplify and accelerate
the labor-intensive and time-consuming bidding and negotiation procedures. These digital
platforms enable businesses to make procurement choices more swiftly and effectively than the
labor- and time-intensive traditional bargaining approach.
Another advantage is the possibility of money savings. Technology-driven e-auction systems
provide a competitive online environment where vendors compete in real-time. Businesses may
save a considerable amount of money via this bidding procedure since more competition reduces
pricing, as stated by Jiang (2019). Businesses may increase revenues and improve their bottom
line by lowering the cost of products and services.
E-auction and e-negotiation systems rely heavily on communication between buyers and sellers.
With these digital options, the purchase process has a lot more openness. All participating
providers are informed of the current bid status, eliminating any possibility of bias or collusion.
This openness, which makes all relevant information publicly accessible, promotes a more
transparent and honest market.
Ques-5- As an expert discuss, how supply chain experts should focus their attention this
year to improve the overall supply chain? (3- Marks)

Supply chain professionals must identify areas where changes will impact the whole chain most
and constantly adapt to the ever-changing world of supply chain management. This year, supply
chain specialists should pay special attention to the following critical areas:
Digital Transformation: The use of new digital technologies is a top goal. Supply chain
professionals should investigate cutting-edge technologies such as blockchain, machine learning
(ML), artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT). These technologies may help
supply chains become more adaptive and responsive by improving visibility, simplifying
procedures, and allowing predictive analytics.
Supply Chain Resilience: The Logistics Network’s Adaptability Recent worldwide disruptions
have highlighted the need to establish robust supply networks. Professionals should assess
vulnerability, diversify their supply chains, and implement effective risk management procedures.
Sustainability: Sustainability is a critical component, not just a buzzword. Experts throughout the
supply chain should strive to create and distribute things utilizing more environmentally friendly
raw material sources.
Data-driven Decision Making: Data is a crucial resource in supply chain management. Data
analytics, a powerful instrument, should be used by professionals to have a better knowledge of
their operations. Data-driven decision-making is essential for increasing supplier efficiency,
anticipating demand, and inventory management.
Supplier Collaboration: Supply chain experts must aim to improve supplier cooperation and
communication. Practical cooperation and communication reduce risk and improve supplier
performance (Manavalan & Jayakrishna, 2019).
To summarize, supply chain professionals must emphasize digital transformation, sustainability,
resilience, data-driven decision-making, supplier cooperation, fulfilling growing consumer

expectations, regulatory compliance, talent development, moral behavior, and cost control. Supply
chain professionals may assist their companies in creating a more robust, efficient, and sustainable
supply chain by concentrating on five critical areas in 2023 and beyond.
