Strategy 1: Furthering Education One way to grow professionally is to continue our education, like pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. By doing this, we can enhance our skills, take on leadership roles, and learn about healthcare policy to help make a difference. For example, I’m considering getting a DNP focusing on healthcare policy so I can understand how to advocate for underserved groups and influence policy changes that can help improve people’s health. Also, DNP degree can help increase salary potential, while also opening up career opportunities only available to those with advanced training (Deering, 2023).Alignment with the University’s Emphasis on Social Change: By pursuing advanced education, we can become advocates for health equity and social justice. With more knowledge and leadership skills, we can work on changing policies to make sure everyone gets the healthcare they need. This can help reduce healthcare differences and bring about positive social change.Strategy 2: Getting Involved in Research and Scholarly Activities Another way to include academic achievements in our professional goals is to participate in research projects, present at conferences, and publish articles. By doing these activities, we can contribute to nursing knowledge and evidence-based practice. For example, I recently worked on a research project examining how culturally sensitive care affects healthcare outcomes for immigrants in our community.Alignment with the University’s Emphasis on Social Change: Participating in research and scholarly activities lets us help find solutions to societal problems. By learning and sharing what we see, we can help improve healthcare for everyone, no matter where they’re from (Newman, 2021). This can help make healthcare more accessible and change healthcare practices and policies.In summary, incorporating academic activities and accomplishments into our professional development is vital for growing as nurses and making a positive impact. By continuing our education and taking part in research and scholarly activities, we can gain the knowledge and skills needed to address healthcare challenges and advocate for social change within our communities.
