Basic Paper Outline Example

Class,

Students tend to get stuck on how to write the course paper. Below is a sample outline to model for drafting your paper. First, start off with a brief history of your company (a paragraph will suffice). Next, highlight the company’s stance on corporate social responsibility. You will then explain that, although the company practices social responsibility, it has been criticized for its business conduct and/or business practices. Follow up with a detailed discussion about how the company addressed the case or controversy (describe its best practices in detail) and whether the approach was in alignment with its stance on corporate social responsibility. Using this approach will help to ensure your paper flows logically and that it doesn’t not jump from topic to topic.

Here’s the sample outline for Uber. Notice how the outline flows smoothly from start to finish.

Selected Company: Uber – Uber Technologies, Inc. (2021). About Us. Retrieved from https://www.uber.com/us/en/about/

Section #1: Corporate Social Responsibility Stance

(Discuss the Organization’s Corporate Social Responsibility Stance.)

Corporate social responsibility is a viable management practice because focuses on giving back to society. Uber’s approach to corporate social responsibility is simple: It helps communities by providing safer roads for riders.

Section #2: Lawsuits and Controversies

(Discuss Lawsuits and Controversies Involving the Organization.)

Although Uber practices corporate social responsibility, it has faced complaints over its business conduct. Uber has been accused of engaging in unlawful business practices involving false advertisement (Lien & Russ, 2014).

Uber has also come under fire for failing to prevent and/or report driver sexual assaults and human trafficking (West, 2019).

Section #3: Best Practices

(Discuss Best Practices the Organization is Using to Address Issues. In other words, discuss the topics you listed in Section #2 and explain how the company is tackling them.)

Uber has acknowledged its corporate social responsibility shortcomings by improving its business practices. Uber agreed to settle the consumer protection case by paying a $8.5 million settlement and agreeing to no longer claim that its driver background check process was “industry leading (Isaac, 2016).”

Uber has instituted new strategies to monitor its drivers. Uber has also launched an initiative to educate its drivers about human trafficking. It has also partnered with advocacy organizations against human trafficking (Uber Technologies, 2021).
