ASSESSMENT BRIEFS
Assignment Brief
Assessment Component: Coursework Essay (individual report to be submitted)
You should prepare and submit a written project report, in accordance with the information and instructions
provided in Appendix-A (page 3 of this document).
Assignment Brief
You must first identify a relevant case-study from any one of the following areas:
Publicly Funded Healthcare Systems
Large-scale Construction Projects
Megaprojects in Railway Industry
Education Sector
Large-scale Sporting Events
Drawing on your selected case-study, discuss which relevant Management of Risk principles, approaches
(including documents), and processes (including tools) can be used, improved, or customized to improve the risk
management practices, taking into consideration the level of complexity in the project you selected.
Define the relevant concepts which you will be using in the report.
Taking into consideration the level of complexity of the selected case-study, evaluate the usefulness of
adoption of such concepts based on empirical information. To answer this question:
▪ Briefly describe the level of complexity in the selected case-study.
▪ Define and discuss the usefulness of the Management of Risk principles to the project under
consideration. Use appropriate risk management tools and techniques (such as Risk Registers,
Risk Assessment Matrix, Fishbone Diagrams, Decision Trees, PESTLE Analysis, etc.) wherever you
think that such tables/plots/diagrams could be useful to improve the quality of the discussion.
▪ Comment on the limitations and advantages of the use of Qualitative and Quantitative methods
to assess project uncertainties. Discuss which of these were (or could be) used in the selected
case-study.
▪ Provide recommendations to improve the organization’s risk management practices using the
lessons learnt from the selected case-study (professional implications).
Your report word count should not exceed 5,000 words. The number of words in the references does not
count in the 5,000 words.
Marks will be based upon-
▪ The correctness of the information (i.e., definitions)
▪ The use of real data/information cited from credible sources.
▪ The reflection of understanding concepts in depicting the projects’ complexity level in your case study.
▪ The reflection of understanding the “complexity” concepts in evaluating the relative importance of the
principles, approach (documents), process, and tools.
▪ Proper use of references – APA7 System.
