Background
Different research designs and methods are employed based on the topic, the research problem, and the purpose of the study, and the research questions. Clarity of choice is necessary to develop a viable and feasible study. Making selections about how to set up a study and plan a course of action to collect and analyze data is not random or haphazard. The choices that researchers make must be thoughtful and systematic to maintain alignment and methodological congruence throughout the research process. In this Lesson, students will demonstrate their understanding of components that are critical to the alignment process.
Instructions
You will accomplish several tasks with this assignment:
Step 1. Begin your paper by defining and explaining what alignment means, and why this is so important. Explain the implications of alignment, as well as the lack thereof.
Step 2: Use the NU library to locate a qualitative research article published within the past 5 years. Evaluate the research study for alignment. Describe the extent to which the research questions, methodology, design, data collection, data analysis, and presentation of findings align. Remember to use the NU terms as outlined in the graphic below.
Step 3: Write a conclusion to your paper that includes a reflection on how you judge the quality of the research in this article. Remember that peer-reviewed articles vary in quality and rigor, so don’t be surprised if you have recommendations for improvement. Be sure to include those in your conclusion. An important skills for a doctoral practitioner is to be able to evaluate the quality of research.
