Description
For this assignment you will interview a provider who works with or cares for patients from a vulnerable population such as: homeless, prisoners and LGBTQAI persons. The provider can be from nursing, medicine or any allied health discipline (i.e., SW, case manager, PT, OT,…). Please follow the instructions for this assignment below.
1. Consider what you know about health care discipline and the vulnerable population for whom the provider cares. The interviewee must be willing to participate in an interview!
2. Before you conduct the interview, investigate the job description and role of your interviewee as part of the interdisciplinary health care team and learn more about the vulnerable population they care for. This includes the social, political, historical and economical perspectives pertaining to this population.
3. Utilize the information you have learned in this course to conduct the interview. Be sure to include in your interview questions that include information about:
The providers roles and responsibilities
What brought them to take care of this population
What challenges do they have in caring for this population
What successes have they had in overcoming barriers in caring for this population
How can the health care of this population improve
What is the role of the interviewee’s discipline in improving the health care
4. Write a 5-6 page paper that provides:
A summary information on the person’s role in the health care team
A historical perspective of the vulnerable population and their health
A summary of the unique health care needs of the population for which the interviewee fulfills
Specific implications for the health care provider interacting with a person of this culture in future practice
Personal pronouns are acceptable in this paper
6. References minimum of 3 to include:
a. Current (less than 5 years old), peer reviewed, Journal Article required (minimum 1)
b. Other textbook as appropriate/useful
c. Credible WEB sites (maximum 2)
d. Writing requirements APA style, 7th edition. Student Paper Guidelines
