Real Life Principles, The Epistles and

Description

BIB1450 Final Project Instructions The final project is a summative experience in which you synthesize and apply the knowledge and skills you have learned in the course. In previous units, you have practiced extracting principles from the Bible, researching outside sources, and applying the biblical principles. In the final project, you will combine all three of these steps in one summative assignment. Steps 1. Scripture Study a. Choose a theme from the following options: compassion, relationship with God, or prayer. Be sure to choose a NEW theme you have not used for any prior assignments in this course. b. Using a concordance, identify 10-12 Scriptures (KJV) related to your chosen theme. Think carefully about what each passage meant to the original audience. Analyze the Scriptures to extract a biblical principle. Identify a broad principle that can be considered timeless. c. Write a 100-150-word paragraph in which you describe the principle and how you derived it from the Scriptures. Explain your understanding of it. What have you learned about this principle by studying the Scriptures? Be sure that you have identified a timeless, universal biblical principle. If it is time-bound or culture-specific, then it may not apply appropriately to a modern context. 2. Research a. Research 5 or more credible, scholarly, external sources (meaning sources other than the Bible and ones that are not required for the course) to find supplemental information about the biblical principle that expands your understanding of it. Be sure to find sources that are consistent with the teachings of the Bible. At least two of the sources must be a Bible study tool (Bible dictionary, handbook, atlas, etc.). (KJV) b. For each source, write an annotated bibliography in which you do the following: i. Provide the reference information. ii. In a 100-150-word paragraph, discuss three areas. 1. First, briefly summarize the main points. 2. Second, assess the source. Is the author qualified on the subject? Is the source scholarly? Is the research biased or objective? 3. Third, reflect on the source. Is it helpful? Has the source helped you to understand the principle you’re studying better? 3. Application: Using insights you’ve gained from your study of the Bible and from your research, consider how the principle can be applied appropriately in a current context. In a 150-200-word paragraph, reflect on how this principle might affect you in personal and/or professional situations. How has it been applied or how could it be applied in your life? Be specific and provide examples with supporting details. 4. Reflection: In a 150-200-word paragraph, reflect on the following. a. Discuss if/how the biblical principle has affected your worldview. Consider if and/or how it has changed your thinking. b. Reflect on this course in regard to whether you have developed a greater appreciation for the application of biblical principles in your life, and if you have experienced growth in your relationship with God as a result of this process. Use the Final Project Template. (Keep the parts in black and replace the red parts with your own information.) Submit the Final Project The final project should have the following components. The complete project should be approx. 6 pages in length. 1. Title page – 1 page 2. Scripture study – 1-2 pages 3. Research (annotated bibliography) – 2 pages 4. Application – 2/3 page 5. Reflection – 2/3 page

Research
Wilson, N. J. (1993). In bonds of love. Sacramento, CA: Reach Worldwide, Inc.
Wilson introduces the ancient biblical custom of the indebted slave/servant who could choose to
remain in the master’s house based on a new covenant of love. While judgment and damnation
are still legal realities, a child of God who lives faithfully for the Lord transcends this to a
relationship likened unto a husband and wife. Believers who are filled with God’s Spirit are His
temple and dwelling place, and therefore, have an obligation to be separate from the unholy and
ungodly ways of the world. Wilson discusses holiness in relation to the human spirit, soul, and
body. Wilson is educated and an experienced pastor, so he is qualified to teach about this subject.
It is a scholarly work with original research that advances knowledge on this topic. The research
is objective and relies primarily on the Bible. This source was very helpful for understanding
holiness in relationship to God’s expectations and ways in which holiness manifests itself.
