PSY105. Discuss board 7

Description

Psychological disorders affect on average 1 in every 8 people worldwide. Different cultures approach mental health differently, and unfortunately there is a lot of stigma associated with mental health issues across the world. Research how mental health is viewed and treated in your assigned country and answer the following questions. 1. How is mental health care carried out in your assigned country (i.e., specialists, diagnosis process, treatment, etc.)? Are there specific resources available, and if so, what are those resources and who are they accessible to? 2. Identify possible barriers to accessing mental health services in your assigned country- what are those barriers? Are these barriers more tied to stigma or simply a matter of not having enough resources widely available? In the previous edition of the Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM IV-TR), disorders that were typically seen in specific cultures were considered “culture-bound syndromes.” The current edition of the DSM (DSM-5) removed “culture-bound syndromes” and instead emphasizes cultural variations across most disorders as explained here: Cultural Concepts in DSM-5. Remember that the DSM is not used universally, and so considering this information, answer the following questions. 3. Are there mental health disorders specific to your assigned country? a. If so, explain the disorder, including the symptoms experienced. b. If not, what are the mental health disorder(s) that are more commonly experienced in your assigned country? The country that I picked was Canada, this needs to be written in APA format and it is due 2/22/2024 thank you
