*Assignment one-Throughout this course, you will be completing assignments that will be used to create a classroom management plan with a rough draft due in Topic 3 and the final draft due in Topic 7.

Classroom management models provide a foundation for your classroom management plan. By basing your classroom management plan on research-based models, you will foster student learning by proactively establishing clear expectations and guidelines, creating consistency, and promoting positive behaviors. Approaches to classroom management guide decision-making to meet and support learning for all students.

There are several excellent research-based classroom management models, including but not limited to: Character Education, PBIS, Fred Jones/Incentive Charts, Canter Model/Assertive Discipline, StopLight Approach, and Glasser Model/Choice.

Research and select three classroom management models that are appropriate for early childhood classrooms and create a graphic organizer that can be provided to other early childhood teachers. Include the following in your graphic organizer for each classroom management model:

Name and description of the model
How the model reinforces positive behavior
How the model provides opportunities for redirection , teachable moments, and/or logical consequences for discouraged behaviors
Strategies provided within the model that can be used in the classroom
Strategies provided within the model that families can use at home for behavior support and learning

Support your graphic organizer with a minimum of 2-3 resources.

Classroom designs in early childhood education should be inclusive and welcoming for all learners. Early childhood educators must be proactive in motivating their students by creating positive social-emotional classroom environments and designing classroom layouts that promote optimal learning. Creating a welcoming environment will increase students’ sense of safety and trust, increase confidence, reduce stress levels, and provide a sense of belonging. Designing a functional, flexible, and engaging classroom can improve student outcomes, reduce unwanted behaviors, and promote a cooperative and productive learning environment.

Select two specific ages/grades, one for birth to preschool and one for K-3, and create an inclusive classroom design for each of the selected age/grades. Select items and areas that are developmentally appropriate for each selected age/grade. Based on your own research select a digital tool or other appropriate strategy to create each classroom layout. Areas/centers you can incorporate include, but are not limited to:

Art
Music
Reading
Science/social studies
Math/manipulatives
Pretend play
Small group and large group activities
Gross motor/outside play
Technology
Reflection/calming area
Other areas needed, based on age, management model, etc.

Ensure each area in each classroom design is clearly labeled and includes the necessary furniture and space to promote social-emotional development.

Upon completion of each classroom design, write a 500–750 word essay comparing and contrasting the two classroom environments. Include the following:

Explain the effect of each environment on child development.
Identify how each classroom design is accessible to all students while supporting inclusion and developmentally appropriate activities for each age/grade.
Describe how you will collaborate with learners and colleagues to create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.

Support your classroom layouts and essay with a minimum of 2-3 resources.
