Why are we starting in 2D???
Your 2D Floor Plans are the foundation for all future work!
Base Plans are what we use to create Space Plans or Space Studies. They are also known as;
Existing Drawings
As-Built Drawings
Existing Conditions
As-Built Conditions
So these 2D ‘base plan’ objects need to be grouped and assigned to layers you can control BEFORE you start your 3D modeling work.
2D SPACE STUDIES
Practice what you’ve learned so far by creating a couple of BASE PLANS! ….which you will develop into 3D on the next assignment.
(I move through these steps pretty slowly this first demo video, but you can change the speed of the video if you want to move more quickly)
Using Prototypes for various office spaces, this exercise will combine the various drawing, model organization, AND layer management tools learned so far!
*Please notice every object has been individually grouped!

INSTRUCTIONS
Pick a Conference Room AND an Executive Office from the provided Prototypes PDF file……… that you will work on IN A SINGLE SKP FILE.
The video tutorial demos a Conference Room, but you will need to complete a Conference Room AND another Executive Office Space of your choosing.
PLEASE NOTE -It is important to group the secondary seating area in the Executive Office spaces separately, so we can use it in future hotel/ lobby/ lounge/ bar/restaurant space planning!
*Before you start* consider how you should model and group like objects together, before drawing anything else, ie;
Draw the Walls, group the Walls
Draw the Door, group the Door
Draw the Window, group the Window
Draw the Desk, then group the Desk (or bring in a component fr the 3D warehouse)
Draw the Task Chair, group the Task Chair (or bring in a component fr the 3D warehouse)…….. and so on.
If any of the furniture is a repeated item, model it as a component!
USE THE FLOOR PLAN PROVIDED
This course introduces various software and drawing techniques, it does NOT cover how to Space Plan.
Do NOT create your own space plan.
Use guidelines and reference the dimensions in the Floor Plans provided.

Group your Geometry
Assign your Groups or Components to a Tag (formerly known as ‘Layers’)

Double check yourself!
Turn off EVERY SINGLE LAYER your layer visibility and make sure every single group has been assigned correctly.
Save your file with a meaningful file name;
ie. the Course Name_Assignment Name_Your Name
ie. INTE 112B_Mod X Assignment-Tag Management-2D BASE PLAN, Frida Khalo
Submit your file to be graded.
