Your answer needs to be no less than 300 words. You must answer all questions completely. Be sure to run a spell-check on your submission.
Students then must post thoughtful replies to two other students’ posts (100 word minimum for each of the 2 student response posts). When you post your reply to the 2 other students, I want you to use the 3CQ model. What does this mean? It means that each response should include a complement about the student’s post, a comment about the student’s post, a connection to something external to the discussion (such as a comment on your own experience/thoughts on the issue), and a question that will prompt further discussion. Please divide your responses into 4 separate parts and label them with the corresponding heading. For example:

please respond to 2 students
Student 1 (Ava)1. Which party did you select?
The party I chose to select is the Green Party platform. They are a political party within the United States that stands for democracy, social justice, ecology, and peace. They believe that the human race should be allowed to have a say in decisions that will affect their lives and the lives around them. They work to improve the amount of people voting so as to ensure that representatives are accountable for those who elected them. They want people to have a say in their government. They want to offer those in the United States with social justice, equality, a better ecology, a community-based economy, feminism, gender equality, diversity, and the sustainability of our country and planet.
2. Summarize two issues on their platform.
(a) Domestic Security:
The people of the Green Party platform want to stop certain civil liberty attacks against the United States. After the Twin Tower attacks of September 11, 2001. They wanted to make people feel safe along with being able to ensure to grant freedoms to the people of America. Another drive for domestic security within the United States is “Erosion of freedom in the United States. This has come from many sources and takes many forms, including the war on drugs and widespread imprisonment of nonviolent drug offenders; the increased use of personal identification, surveillance of employees at work, and the growing use of private security forces by corporations; restrictions on the speech of protesters and students; and random traffic stops of persons of color and the commonplace use of roadblocks.” (https://www.gp.org/democracy#demDomesticSecurityLi… to an external site.) They have come up with several ideas to help maintain the security of the American people. Some of these include: addressing the state of the environment, investigating terrorist attacks, enforcing the First Amendment, opposing the death penalty, supporting the Fourth Amendment, and many more.
(b) Social Justice: Youth Rights
The people of the Green Party platform believe that all human beings have the right to achieve their full potential, and the freedom to have the means to achieve that. Part of their Social Justice issue is their Youth Rights section. “Young people are one of the least protected classes of human beings, yet they represent our future. We must ensure they have an upbringing that allows them to take their place as functioning, productive, and self-actualized members of their community.” (https://www.gp.org/social_justice#youthLinks to an external site.) Within this issue, they offer statements about youth rights. Some of these include: children are not the property of their parents, but rather under their care and protection. Youth have the right to survive through the means of their parents. Youth have the right to an education. As well as the belief that the voting age should be lowered to 16 to give younger people the right to take part in their future.
3. Tell us who the party’s last presidential candidate was in 2020.
In 2020, Howie Hawkins and Angela Walker were the presidential candidates for the Green Party.
4. What did you learn?
This was my first time learning, and diving deep, into a specific party’s beliefs and views. I found that it was interesting that the Green Party platform found youth rights something worth fighting for. Especially the section about lowering the voting age.
student 2 (Raylee)
Which party did you select?
For this assignment I chose the Libertarian party. This political party is focused on the good of the individual and believes that people can not be “forced to sacrifice their values for the benefit of others.” This party believes that American’s should go about their lives and follow their dreams with no interference from the government.
Summarize two issues on their platform.
(1)- Personal Liberty
– The Libertarian party’s beliefs regarding personal liberties links to a general respect for individual’s decisions. Whether or not the party agrees with the decisions made or not, the party will support the individual and will not allow the government to infringe on their inherent rights. This principle includes things such as privacy, that the Government will be transparent and that we are secure in our own homes. Another example that was shocking to me in the Libertarian party’s belief that if we are old enough to vote and serve in the military, then we are old enough to buy alcohol, tabacco, and other things that are currently government restricted due to age. There are many more outlines to personal liberty outlined in the article.
(2)- Securing Liberty
– The Libertarian party believes that the sole purpose of the government is to protect the American citizens individual rights. The principle speaks on protecting U.S. citizens by methods of protecting national defense, individual rights, avoiding alliances with other countries, supporting free trade, no discrimination for any reason, and having a representative government and self determination.
Tell us who the party’s last presidential candidate was in 2020.
The 2020 presidential candidate for the Libertarian party was Jo Jorgensen.
What did you learn?
From this article I learned a lot more about the Libertarian party, which I was very uneducated on before. I learned how impartial the Libertarian party is. It feels as though their only concern is for the people and not for the government, which sounds nice, but when you abandon the best interest of the government I feel like that could definitely cause issues. This post makes me wonder even more why these two smaller political parties are hardly discussed in the presidential elections.
