Description
I will work in a primary care setting for this clinical rotation. I will work with a family medicine specialist physician and complete my required 135 hours in primary care. At this clinic, with my preceptor, I will be getting experience in providing primary care to children, adults, and the geriatric population. Working in a primary care clinic, I can get an opportunity to develop various skills and achieve various goals. I plan to develop the ability to conduct thorough health assessments, including medical history, physical examination, and psychosocial evaluations. I would also like to enhance my skills in differential diagnosis and clinical decision-making based on patient assessments and diagnostic tests. I can use this opportunity to gain expertise in managing and treating common chronic conditions prevalent in primary care, such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma. I would use evidence to support my clinical decisions. Evidence-based practice (EBP) strategies allow healthcare providers to translate research findings into clinical practice (Melnyk, 2018). To use evidence accurately, nurse practitioners (NPs) need skills to critically appraise and evaluate it for validity and applicability in daily practice (Ylimaki et al., 2022). In clinical practice, after formulating a clinical question, I will conduct a thorough literature review to identify relevant research studies, systematic reviews, and clinical guidelines and then use reputable databases and journals to gather the most current and applicable evidence. I would learn and apply my clinical expertise and experience to decision-making. Considering how the evidence aligns with the healthcare provider’s professional judgment and the patient’s specific needs is crucial.ReferencesMelnyk, B. (2018). Why choose evidence-based practice?
